At its core, Jazz re:freshed mission is to globally elevate, amplify and spotlight the breadth of expression in UK Jazz, while breaking down the boundaries to access the music as a listener. Synonymous with supporting the launch of Ashley Henry and Nubya Garcia’s recording careers, tastemakers, Jazz re:freshed have achieve their aims by supporting, developing and promoting emerging artists and bands across multiple platforms including a weekly live residency, annual one day festival, record label, band development programs, international showcasing and multiple partnerships.

While hosting their third UK Jazz showcase at SXSW 2019, Jazz re:freshed are joining us for this special night to present Ezra Collective to New Orleans for the first time.

Ezra Collective

Ezra Collective incredible musicianship and spirited, inclusive approach to music - which draws on afrobeat, hip-hop, grime and more - has seen them break out beyond the burgeoning UK jazz scene. Their 2017 EP, Juan Pablo: The Philosopher, won ‘Best Jazz Album’ at Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards and the band picked up ‘Best UK Jazz Act’ and ‘Live Experience Of The Year’ at the 2018 Jazz FM Awards. The five young Londoners played Quincey Jones’ birthday party and recently completed a mosh-pit-filled, sold out UK tour (culminating in a packed out 2,400 capacity hometown show), before headlining Winter JazzFest in New York. Ezra Collective’s forthcoming gigs include more US dates, SXSW, plus All Point East festival.

February 2019 saw them release new single "Quest For Coin” ; about the pursuit of money but not losing your soulfulness in the process”, explains bandleader and drummer Femi Koleoso. “You know when you can’t afford the train, so you get the bus and meet a beautiful stranger who talks to you about your saxophone case. Yeah that. Basically city life, London life.”

Quest For Coin is taken from Ezra Collective’s forthcoming debut album, You Can’t Steal My Joy, out 26th April. The record - which is set to cement Ezra Collective’s status as one of the UK’s most exciting groups - features Loyle Carner, KOKOROKO and Jorja Smith.

Ezra Collective is:

Femi Koleoso - Drums

TJ Koleoso - Bass

Joe Armon Jones - Keys

Dylan Jones - Trumpet

James Mollison - Saxophone
