NOLA Funk & Soul Tribute to Jerry Garcia: Hosted by Ari Teitel

jerry garcia tribute

New Orleans based guitar phenom Ari Teitel leads an all-star local cast through Garcia's R&B-oriented material, pulling from his work with both The Grateful Dead and The Jerry Garcia Band.

Jerry Garcia was an American singer-songwriter and guitarist, best known for his work as the lead guitarist and as a vocalist with the band Grateful Dead, which came to prominence during the countercultureera in the 1960s. Although he disavowed the role, Garcia was viewed by many as the leader or "spokesman" of the group.

GRAMMY nominated Ari Teitel began his career at 11 years old on stage sitting in with Robert Randolph at the Michigan Theater in his hometown of Detroit. Hoisted up on chair by the blues and gospel legend, he floored an audience of thousands with a guitar solo of unexpected maturity and grace. Since then his star has continued to rise. Now 24 years old, Teitel lives in New Orleans and performs internationally with the recently GRAMMY nominated Mardi Gras Indian/Funk ensemble CHA WA, as well as The New Orleans Jazz Orchestra and Eric “Benny” Bloom of Lettuce’s project Benny & The Late Bloomers.

Teitel will lead an all-star cast thru Garcia’s R&B-oriented material, pulling from his work with The Grateful Dead and The Jerry Garcia Band.

The band: Ari Teitel - guitar/vocals, Daryl Johnson (Neville Brothers) - bass/vocals, Kendrick Marshall (Big Sam’s Funky Nation) - keyboards, Jermal Watson (Dirty Dozen Brass Band) - drums, Anjelika Jelly Joseph (Tank & The Bangas) - vocals.
