Spirit & Sparrow

A night of expansive soul-powered music with Monica McIntyre & Keisha Slaughter.

Monica "Spirit" McIntyre (pronouns: Spirit/They/Them) -- A Gender Expansive Cellist, Vocalist, Lyricist, Wellness Advocate, Sound Healer, Reiki Practitioner, Mover and Visual Artist -- who promotes empowerment and healing by any medium necessary. Spirit believes in the power of breath, creating intentional artistic relationships, honoring lovability, being seen/seeing, growing compassionately through tight places to find authentic expansion, and practicing sustainable artistry. Healing affirmations, meticulous storytelling, and metaphor saturate their lyrics. They use their voice and cello to seamlessly blend: Blues, Soul, Folk, Classical, Reggae and Middle Eastern sounds into an unforgettable musical landscape. Discography: Blusolaz, 2003; Bars of Gold, 2005; It Soon Come, 2013; Mourning To The Moonlight, 2014. Listen: https://monicamcintyre.bandcamp.com

Keisha "Sparrow" Slaughter is a New Orleans born and raised Singer, Songwriter, and Multi-Instrumentalist, captivating audiences with her soulful, smart, and highly inventive compositions. A fusion of Soul, R&B, Folk, and Jazz, Keisha’s music often reaches beyond the constraints of a single genre to a place where she can, “let the music be." Keisha grew up singing in church and once you hear her, you’ll understand how she could bring folks to their knees. She inspires you with her narratives, soothes you with her soaring, resonant voice, and thrills you the second she picks up her instrument. It’s no coincidence that Keisha is a music therapist as well as an artist: “Keisha” music is like a companion on an internal journey, walking with you through all its changes, pleasures, and surprises. Her work as an artist and healer emerge from the same place, powerfully informed by her soul-awareness. Her debut album, Dark Fire, will be released in early 2017. Listen: keishaslaughtermusic.com.

Together, Monica and Keisha are "Spirit & Sparrow" guiding us on a transformative sonic evening.
